[20:56] <Solarchos> A few years ago some kind of extradimensional anomaly we designated the Stygian Abyss was detected approaching the star system. Even from light-years away we could detect something nasty about it.
[20:57] <Solarchos> Eldritch abominations began to awaken on Algol. As if THAT wasn't enough, an alien sleeper-ship drifting in the outer reaches of the star system awoke and began moving in closer to Algol itself.
[20:58] <Solarchos> Pretty soon the Algolians were at war, trying to defend themselves at a time they were all trying to work together to deal with the start of an ice age on their world.
[20:59] <Solarchos> That's when they asked the Federation for help. I sent in the Imperial Guard and part of the Fleet.

[21:00] <Solarchos> The threats escalated. The Aggendi (the aliens) got even more hostile. Turns out they're NOT the "We come in peace" types.
[21:01] <Solarchos> And the eldritch abominations got more numerous and bigger. By about two years ago, the Algolians were starting to panic.
[21:03] <Solarchos> They begged the Federation Assembly to stop the invasion. The only problem is that I'm not allowed to take command of the ENTIRE Federation military unless the Federation itself is being threatened.
[21:04] <Solarchos> Kind of an institutional check against me that I put into place long ago.
[21:04] * Thrash looks for anything he can use at the moment.....

[21:05] <Solarchos> Algol then joined the Federation outright, pledging access to everything they have in return for saving them from a world-ending event.
[21:06] <Solarchos> By doing so, I had the Assembly's FULL unconditional support to mobilize the ENTIRE Federation military apparatus.
[21:07] <Solarchos> The Fleet, the Ghost Foxes, and several hundred regiments of Imperial Guard descended upon Algol and we smashed into both the Aggendi and the abominations like the wrath of the Emperor Himself.
[21:08] <Solarchos> The Aggendi hive-ship retreated, but the Fleet took damage fighting it off. It's still a threat though, keeping the planet itself between itself and us.

[21:10] <Solarchos> So the space battle is largely a stalemate for now. In order to break the stalemate, I'd have to call in every ship in the Federation, but that would leave other worlds undefended and trade routes unpatrolled. That would cause other problems later on.

[21:11] <Solarchos> On the ground, the abominations were slaughtered by the millions. We almost exterminated all of them within the first few months.
[21:11] <Solarchos> As for allies, none close enough that can lend reinforcements in time to help.
[21:12] <Solarchos> The Humankind Empire Abh is sending supplies, but they have no ships available. They're fully committed to fighting a Tyranid hive-fleet.

[21:13] <Solarchos> I don't want to ask the Imperium for help. There'd be a price-tag involved that I'm not sure I'd want to consider.

[21:14] <Solarchos> The Tau are starting to concern me. Their overall attitude has changed over the last ten years. They've become more...cynical.
[21:16] <Solarchos> The Tanar'ri ARE helping though. A bunch of their own starships have been involved the whole time, but they tend to favor small, fast skirmishers, not heavy battleships that can dish out massive damage and soak up equal amounts in return.
[21:16] <Solarchos> Still, Morrigan's people never abandoned us.
[21:17] <Solarchos> It's the ground war that's concerning me.
[21:17] <Solarchos> Cultist activity has been steadily increasing, and newer monstrosities are appearing all the time. And getting more numerous.
