[02:16] <Yaijinden> If you don't speak the language, what you're getting is a diluted set of ideas, filtered through a structure that may not have the internal mechanisms to effectively render a concept.

[02:18] <Placeholder Girl> Although I did recently discuss the impact of culture on language, and vice versa.

[02:22] <Yaijinden> Within one proposed fantastical future of humanity, there exists a group of interstellar social engineers. They kept a great deal of secrets during a time of strife, and emerged from that strife as the subtle masters of the known worlds.

[02:44] <Yaijinden> To a degree, I've stopped believing in the existence of free will. There's a pang that comes up, saying, "But if you do not believe in free will, how can you bear to take action? If your future is just a consequence of your past, why pursue things any further?"

[02:46] <Yaijinden> Because as smart as I am, there is a ginormous multitude of variables that will influence the course of my life. I can't predict all of them.
[02:47] <Yaijinden> I can see the past in the present, and the future in the past. But the farther I try to prognosticate, the less-certain my conclusions become, because the variables I cannot measure begin to pile up.
[02:48] <Yaijinden> I can predict that I will be asleep at this time tomorrow-- it would be wise of me to be so, owing that I am going to be short sleep tomorrow and would like to make sure I get it when I can get it so I am not exhausted on Tuesday.
[02:50] <Yaijinden> I can not forsee with one hundred percent clarity something that I cannot measure, or control, the input into. And that uncertainty is a glory, because it allows me to take the world as I see fit to do so.

[02:52] <Placeholder Girl> I was thinking recently -- if I had not somehow developed an interest in Sailor Moon (and to this day I cannot accurately recall when, where, or why I started liking it) I wouldn't be here.

[02:52] <Placeholder Girl> Which means I wouldn't go to cons.
[02:52] <Placeholder Girl> I probably wouldn't be on Gaia, or consider myself a resident of the internet.

[02:53] <Placeholder Girl> And in a more physical sense, I might not be exactly where I am right now.
[02:53] <Placeholder Girl> And then another thing -- had I moved to Korea two or three weeks later the second time, I might also have lost interest in anime.
