DC’s recent offerings are far more somber and self-serious–which seems to work for the new take on Batman or a Moore adaptation, but which dragged down the (otherwise partially admirable) Superman Returns. The Iron Man trailers and clips convey a looseness, humor and a sense of the filmmakers and actors at play. That sense is entirely absent from the handful of DC pictures we’ve gotten–which feel more like filmed tributes to Great Men who’ve recently died, meant to be played at the wake.
